Crown Point Firefighters from several area departments helped fight a fire that started at Frenchy’s Restaurant on Main Street in Crown Point Jan. 24.
Firefighters fought the fire until 4 a.m. Saturday only to get called back out a few hours later when the fire spread to the second floor, causing more damage.
Fire investigators determined the fire started inside a wastebasket in the pizza room of the snack bar Friday night. No accelerants were found. The building is said to be a total loss.
Karen Talbot and her family, who were living in an apartment above the restaurant, were displaced by the fire.
The North Country Chapter of the American Red Cross of Northeastern New York provided assistance to the family.
“We’re just fortunate that everyone made it out safe. The material lost can be replaced,” Ronnie Ryan, owner of the building, said.
Ryan purchased the building in April 2011 after the snack bar had been closed for about a year. Opening just a month later in May, they expanded the menu and attracted a lot of customers year around with their pizza, wings, ice cream and more.
Ryan said he plans to rebuild and open another food stand.
