Voting under way in logo contest
With a time line and financial plan in place, the group working to form the Ticonderoga Natural Foods Co-op will hold a public reception and information session. The event will be Friday, March 14, at 6 p.m. at the PRIDE office on Montcalm Street in Ticonderoga.
Top chefs compete for honors
The third annual Schroon Lake Chili Cook Off was a rousing success. The event raised more than $1,226 for local emergency services, reported Shelby Davis, who organized the cook off. That’s $500 more than a year ago.
In February, the Sentinel Grille as part of its Community Give Back Program will donate a percentage of receipts to the Ticonderoga Heritage Museum.
Nearly 5,000 people assisted in 2013
The Schroon Lake Food Pantry served nearly 5,000 people during 2013. A report prepared by Lenchen Marnell, pantry director, shows 1,962 families, 3,261 adults, 1,350 children and 974 senior citizens received support from the pantry last year.
Senior citizen meal program available
Attendance is down at the Schroon senior citizen nutrition site. The Schroon nutrition site is not unique. Patty Bashaw, director of the Essex County Office for the Aging, told the county board in December fewer seniors are attending the meals served at 14 locations around the county.
Third annual event Feb. 22 at Mountainside
Regardless of the winter weather, there will be plenty of heat in Schroon Lake Feb. 22. That’s when the third annual Schroon Lake Chili Cook Off will be held to benefit the community’s emergency services.
Contest to determine group’s symbol
The committee working to establish a food cooperative store in Ticonderoga is now seeking a logo. The Ticonderoga Natural Foods Coop committee has announced it will hold a contest to select a logo for the yet-to-be-created store.

Community dinner slated Nov. 27
Crown Point will observe Thanksgiving with a community dinner, sponsored by the town’s churches and businesses. The turkey dinner will be served Wednesday, Nov. 27, 4 to 7 p.m. at the Crown Point United Methodist Church on Creek Road. The dinner is free.
