Eagles beat Cougars 5-2 in championship
The Eagles broke a close game with a three-goal blast in a four minute span of the second half to win the Section VII Class B championship over the Cougras 5-2 on Thursday night.
The annual renewal of rivalry between the Ticonderoga (5-3) and Moriah (4-4) varsity football teams once again takes the stage at AuSable Valley High School with the Section VII/Class D title on the line.
Beekmantown 2, Northeastern Clinton 1
The Eagles were due. After falling shy of the Section VII Class B title two years in a row, Beekmantown overcame a hard-playing Northeastern Clinton squad with two goals over 90 minutes apart for the 2-1 championship win in overtime.
Two local schools recently changed out of their traditional colors and went pink to help support cancer awareness and research.
Girls, boys take Section VII crowns
The Beekmantown Eagles swept the Northeastern Clinton Cougars in girls' and boys' varsity soccer Section VII Class B crowns Thursday night.
The Minerva/Newcomb girls soccer team advanced to the Section VII/Class D finals Saturday, Nov. 1, with a 3-2 win over the Moriah Vikings Oct. 28.
Kayli Stone found the back of the net in the 79th minute of play to advance the Crown Point Lady Panthers to the Section VII/Class D semifinals against Chazy with a 1-0 victory over one of the two teams who beat them twice in the regular season (Minerva/Newcomb being the other).
Section VII rushing record in Justin Stevens' sights
Justin Stevens said he and his Eagles were not going to overlook the Plattsburgh Hornets in hopes for a rematch against the Peru Indians in the Section VII Class B championship game to be played next Saturday, knowing from the previous meeting that the Hornets would come out hard.
AuSable Valley advances to championship against Saranac Lake
The Saranac Chiefs fell to the AuSable Valley Patriots in the Class C semifinal game on Saturday, Oct. 25 by a score was 14 to 8.
Saranac Lake 40, Tupper Lake 14
The Lumberjack's ground-and-pound game kept its offense on the field for much of the game, but it was the Red Storm's lightening-quick attack that piled up the points as Saranac Lake scored quickly and often as it rolled to the 40-14 win over rival Tupper Lake.
With talented players on both teams, no one really seemed to have the upperhand. In the second half of the sectional face-off, Minerva-Newcomb found intensity and rallied over the Crown Point Panthers, 5-3, Oct. 23.
However, it was the Bobcats who found the net with 10 seconds remaining in the second of two 10-minute overtimes to advance past the Sentinels to the Section VII/Class C finals with a 1-0 win.
Keene scores seven, six in the first half, in strong performance
The Beavers put 15 shots on net against the Wildcats in the first 40 minutes only to enter halftime with a 1-0 lead. Little changed in the second—except Keene seemed unable to miss.
Boys, girls teams go .500 in sectional quarterfinals
Meghan Sullivan scored in the third overtime of a sudden-death quarterfinal game to give the Hornets the 2-1 win over the Red Storm Wednesday afternoon.
LaChute dinner at K of C Oct. 30
